Comment on Mel Gibson: A perfect example of why religion is bad by Satyr

I know some Evangelicals who have urged me to see “The Passion of Christ.” They say it’s very moving and inspiring. While I love mythology and history, I have not seen this movie. However I do know a thing or two about Mel Gibson. I also know some rather grim aspects of “The Passion of Christ.”
1.	Bloody. First of all, I’ve heard that it is one of the bloodiest, goriest movies that does not have an X rating. The point of the passion narrative in Christian tradition is to make you feel as guilty as possible that the creator of the universe was so humiliated for a wretch like you. It’s one of the hooks of Christian propaganda.
2.	Anti-Semitic. Mark, the first of the Gospels to be written, held the Jews and the Romans equally responsible for the death of Jesus. The next Gospels to be written put a little more guilt on the Jews. By John, the last canonical Gospel, the guilt is almost entirely on the Jews. Finally, by the very latest apocryphal Gospels, like the Gospel of Thomas, it not only blames the Jews, but is very anti-sematic. Martin Luther, in his, “The Jews and Their Lies” actually lays out a plan to eliminate Jews in Europe. This strain of hatred within Christianity led to untold atrocities against European Jews throughout the centuries, leading to Christian societies that went along with a murderous Austrian who killed at least 6 million Jews. So which side of the spectrum does Mel Gibson choose to play up in his version of the Passion? The most anti-Semitic. And it’s no wonder; he has reportedly disparaged Jews personally.
3.	Mel Gibson. This is what Evangelicals should contemplate. A right wing Catholic, who is known to have disparaged African Americans, Jews, Latinos and gay people; who’s rants against his girlfriend have included threats of bodily harm; who has been accused of domestic violence; this guy, this guy, has made a religious movie that so moved and inspired you, that it brought you to tears?
4.	Affects. This movie was distributed to the American troops in Iraq. As if that’s not disturbing enough, apparently some really took it to heart. On Easter Morning, 2004, a tank crew watched the “Passion of Christ” over and over again. They had an Iraqi translator, who was a Christian, spray paint the side of their tank with the words, “Jesus kills Muhammad.” Then they took the tank into the neighborhood, with a megaphone hooked to an Arabic recording, screaming anti-Islamic insults. Predictably, they began to draw fire. They responded with artillery rounds into houses and apartment buildings. Eventually, so many militants fired back on them that they retreated back to their compound in a hail of fire. The compound had to repel the onslaught for the rest of the day. They’re not sure how many people died, but I’ll bet it was more than one. So what type of reprimand did these guys get? Not only was no one reprimanded, but many of them went on to promotions. This story is according to Jeff Sharlet, in his Harper’s article, “Jesus Killed Mohammed”, May, 2009.

To Aaron, sorry. Not the Fourteenth Amendment. but rather Article Six of the body of the Constitution itself. I have changed my original post.

NO. The Fourteenth Amendment states that whatever the federal government declares shall "become the law of the land." The individual states are free to make laws that cover things not specified, but they can not go against the federal government. For example, if the U.S. declares that it is unlawful to trade with Cuba, Florida cannot establish their own trade relations with Cuba. The Treaty of Tripoli specified that the United States is NOT (emphasis added) a Christian Nation. It was passed in both houses of congress and signed into law by President Adams. The Fourteenth Amendment makes that law binding to not just the country, but to all states.

Okay gang, it looks like the good guys won this round. Amazon has separated the two books. A search for origin of Species still produces the Ray Comfort edition. But the correct reviews have been applied to their respective books. Good job to everyone who complained to Amazon!

Yes, makarios, that is exactly what atheists want. We want people to read "Origin of Species" as it was intended to be read by it's author.
It seems Mr. Comfort wants to censor Darwin's original masterpiece by spoon-feeding his readers, with a bunch of lies and distortions.
I suggest you watch this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmHN3JtyUXg
and then tell me who wants to tell people what to think.
